Terry McPhillips Confirmed Blackpool Manager

Terry McPhillips has tonight been confirmed the new Blackpool manager having signed a 12 month rolling contract. Having seen the likes of Ian Holloway and Richie Wellens commanding the early betting odds, McPhillips was pushed to one side, but his results on the pitch and increasing passion for this football club have earned him the job offer of permanent manager. But how did Terry McPhillips, the right hand man to Gary Bowyer, eventually end up in this position and earn the respect of the majority of Blackpool fans?

Gary Bowyer walked from the seaside having seen his Blackpool side held to a stalemate at Wycombe on the opening day of the League One season and McPhillips was immediately employed as interim manager. Since then 9 games have passed, Oyston has issued an open email to Belekon and McPhillips has earnt the support of the Blackpool fans and board.

The Manchester born Blackpool manager has averaged 1.5 points per game since taking charge and has shown time and time again that the players believe in what he is doing at the football club.

His first game in charge didn’t go as he would have hoped, despite the promising performance that Blackpool displayed, as Blackpool fell to a 1-2 defeat on Pompey’s visit to Bloomfield Road. But, as I say, the potential was there and it has since showed. McPhillips has masterminded a steady rise up the table, a progression into the third round of the FA cup and signed some essential players. Blackpool currently sit in 9th position and a 3rd Round FA Cup visit to Loftus Road awaits them.

Having originally failed to voice his interest in the vacancy, McPhillips would finally display this after the Walsall stalemate when he said, "I've been loving it, and yes I think I would like the job,"

McPhillips will hopefully take Blackpool to new heights that they haven’t reached in recent times and will hopefully be the catalyst in returning the Seasiders to the Championship. Blackpool are certainly capable this year, the squad belief is there,as proven on Saturday, and it is certainly a plausible outcome.

Blackpool are once again on the up and, despite Bowyer’s loss being a saddening one, McPhillips has the opportunity to put all that behind him and return Blackpool to somewhat normality.
