It is certainly a state of peaks and troughs as Oyston remains firmly at the centre of the club, and with him set to pocket an extra £75,000 through TV revenue in the FA Cup, his position doesn't appear to be coming to an end just yet. But McPhillips and Blackpool persevere and battle on through the storm whilst they look to climb the table yet further this weekend as they head to Southend. The Shrimpers have, similarly to Blackpool, been threatening to shoot up the table, but points being dropped unnecessarily have led them to the 13th position. By no means though will Blackpool be able to act complacent as, especially at this time in the season, there is absolutely everything to play for.
Injuries and suspensions: Harry Lennon and Rob Kierman make up the injury list for the Bluess. Blackpool could see the reurn of Mark Howard and Joe Bunney to League action (Bunney played in the Checkatrade trophy along with forward Gnanduillet who recently returned from suspension) while Jimmy Ryan remains out.
Southend United FC: Southend are quite possibly the most average team in League one. There is nothing spectacular whilst there is nothing wrong with the Blues, but their start to the season has left the rest of it as a blank canvas. Chris Powell will be hoping to build on last season's 10th place finish and a win against the Seasiders tomorrow will go a long way in helping with that. Blackpool head to Roots Hall with a squad on it way back to full fitness, so Southend will prove a good determinant of how Blackpool will fare during the rest of the season.
The Shrimpers are yet to fully establish themselves at both ends of the pitch so far, scoring 1.24 per game and conceding 1.29; both stats that are satisfying yet underwhelming. They tend to score the majority of their goals in the second half and pride themselves on being a physical, battling side. Having lost on the opening day their confidence was clearly shattered, but towards the end of September they embarked on a 5 match unbeaten run in the League, but recently have lost 3 out of their last 4.
By no means should Blackpool be complacent, but they can head to the seaside with confidence and with the belief that they can win, a win that would put them one step closer to a playoff spot.
