Kick Off: 7.55 Friday 30/11/2018
The lubricant that is a banana skin has been subtlety laid by the BBC for Blackpool, as they kick off the 2nd round of this year’s FA Cup with a trip to Solihull. Damsen Park will be rocking on Friday night and the crowd will be malicious and rowdy, all 4,313 of them if it is to be a sell-out. Blackpool, fresh from the disappointment of their first loss in five will hope to put things right on Friday and avoid the ‘cupset’ that could ensue.

Solihull Moors: Unbeaten in eight, the Moors will be far from a push over on Friday and pack a punch as they currently sit in 6th on the National League table. Moreover, they produced a good result last Saturday, drawing blanks with title contenders Salford, in a match that could easily have gone either way. Salford, a side that took Shrewsbury to a replay in Round One let’s remember, so it shows that an upset can happen and Blackpool can most certainly not just expect the result to come as a formality.
Nevertheless, Solihull manager Tim Flowers, has dubbed a Solihull win, if it were to happen, to be ‘a big surprise’. They have made leaps and bounds this season though and have played some extraordinary stuff, especially considering they finished 18th last year. But in the long run will these flashes of brilliance be enough, especially when Blackpool have been to brilliant themselves 2 tiers above? Will fitness play a tangible role in the final result as it so often does in these sort of clashes? The FA Cup provides so many unanswerable questions because quite literally, anything can and will happen.
Solihull Moors was officially founded in 2007 and have only made this stage in the competition once before, so with the temptation of a tasty third round tie, they will be desperate to get a positive result. It is often said that sides have to be ‘professional’ when seeing off lower League opposition but, on a hectic cold miserable night in Solihull this might not be quite so easy.
