Plymouth Argyle (A) Preview

Updated: Sep 15, 2018

3.00 Saturday 15/09/18

At long last, Terry McPhillips has been named Blackpool manager and it is well deserved too. His Blackpool side are unbeaten in 7, 9th in the table and awaiting a third round tie against QPR in the FA Cup. McPhillips has done an outstanding job and has earned the position after a scintillating win against Bradford on Saturday, however he faces a very different test this weekend. Plymouth Argyle, one of only two sides yet to win in the division, sit rock bottom of League one and have experienced a bleak campaign so far. Adams has failed to continue last seasons momentum and has a huge task if he is to turn their fortunes around this year, but by no means will the game be easy for the Seasiders.

Plymouth Argyle:

The football at Home Park this season has been far from inspiring as, after finishing just outside the playoffs season, their performance this year has been in complete contrast to this. Adams' side has picked up just 3 points, are winless and are bottom of the league. Their thumping 1-5 loss to Peterborough optimizes their year so far, but they will be desperate to get their first win on Saturday.

Some of their talent from last year has remained so it is clear the match could go one of two ways, either Blackpool will runout clear winners of it will be a tight match with few chances at either end. Experience from the likes of Antony Sarcevic and Jamie Ness will surely help Plymouth to accumulate some points soon and they will likely prove tough opposition for McPhillips' first game in perminant charge.

The Stats:

Plymouth stats really don't bode well for their season, as thus far they have struggled at both ends of the pitch. Having scored just 0.57 goals per game on average and conceded 1.86 per game it isn't difficult to then comprehend the fact that they have only obtained 0.43 points per game on average. Their home scoring record however has been slightly better at 1 per game, but again they are not strong enough at the back, conceding just under two per game at Home Park. Plymouth have been poor and these stats certainly do reflect this.
