The Verdict
In the letter Owen Oyston, represented by his solicitors, offers 'the shares in [Blackpool Football Club] and the stadium owned by BFCP. This will include Blackpool Football Club Hotel LTD, all the assets within the stadium including the income from the serviced accommodation, the car park adjoining the stadium and the training ground …' to Valeri Belokon. The price Belekon must pay to put this deal through is £5million despite Owen claiming to value the club at £56million. Owen claims in the letter that he makes this offer 'because of my love for Blackpool Football Club'.
Despite this seemingly ideal offer, it has to be said that all may not be as it seems. Owen has tried to take a righteous role here but this is simply deceiving. He tries to play down the catastrophic situation at the club and the simple fact that a personal letter such as this one is 'open' is in itself questionable; but why is he doing this?
Owen Oyston is simply trying to prove here that Valeri Belokon does not have the clubs best wishes at heart by displaying that he is not willing to 'end the turmoil and uncertainty and prevent BFC going into administration.' by paying a supposed muchly lowered offer for the football club.
Owen Oyston continues the letter trying to prove his innocence in the matter and helplessly tries to explain how he has attempted to keep the club afloat and how Belokon's dealings have been destroying the club further. I do not see how Owen Oyston can blame any other person for the capitulation of the football club apart from himself.
But it may be proved that Owen Oyston is correct; in fact it is very likely. Why would Valeri Belokon want to but Blackpool Football Club? Belekon, like Oyston, is a man who was in football for the money and the money alone. Blackpool fans have to face up to this fact and accept that Belekon does indeed not have the club's best interests at heart. He has won on a big scale, 34 million to be precise, and there is no point for him to go back and gamble with something that he has already won at.
It is likely Belokon will not invest in Blackpool FC and this 'open letter' simply confirms Owen Oyston's confidence in this too. Oyston will have proved a point but what good is that to him now? He still owes and the auctions are just around the corner. This was a last minute plea from Owen but one that will ultimately once more fail.
