Introducing Matty Virtue

Central midfielder Matty Virtue has has today joined Blackpool on a 2 and a half year deal, signing for an undisclosed fee from Liverpool. The 21 year old Englishman spent the second half of last season at Notts County on loan, where he played 15 times, including in the League Two Play-Offs. At Liverpool he played 51 times for the under 23's after coming up through their youth system, scoring 12 goals. Virtue joined Liverpool youth from Chelsea when he was 11 and Blackpool becomes his first permanent move away from The Reds. Virtue is a hard working midfielder who is very adaptable with astute skills at both end of the pitch which were utilised in Notts County's promotion push last year.


Speaking to the club website McPhillips said,

“We’ve watched him for a long time and all the staff know him. Everyone you speak to says what a good lad he is.
“He’s a box-to-box midfield player that does a bit of everything. But the main ingredient is that he’s a great kid that trains hard every day and plays as he trains. We’re really excited to bring him on board.”
