Blackpool 1-1 Wycombe

Blackpool started brightly against the League one high flyers and looked exciting going forward for the first times in weeks. In the 4th minute a Feeney cross would cause problems for Wycombe, but Kaikai could not get his body shape right to head on target. Minutes later, Husband was slipped through, but both his and Delfouneso’s successive shots were blocked.

It was instead Wycombe who would find the breakthrough and it would be calamitous from Blackpool. On 8 minutes a seemingly routine long ball would be missed by Tilt, before finding its way through to Kashket, who made no mistake. He lifted beyond Alnwick and gave Wycombe an undeserved, but expected lead. It was all too easy.

Wycombe, now with a solid foothold in the game, started to improve. Their football was far from impressive, but it was effective, with Akinfenwa’s presence being a real asset. In the 22nd minute Jacobson tried his luck from a freekick, but the shot would not threaten Alnwick’s goal.

Both sides were struggling to create openings, but Wycombe had the advantage. Blackpool were getting closer though, when Kaikai drilled wide in the 38th minute, but Pool were still failing to sustain any pressure.

Blackpool looked inspired at the start of the second half, and it was Feeney who was the provider once again. His dangerous cross was wasted though, as Delfouneso headed over from close range.

For once though, Blackpool would make the most of their dominance, and found an equaliser. A perfect Kaikai freekick would be met equally perfectly by Heneghan. The effort would loop over a helpless Alsop and it was all square in a flash.

They could have even taken the lead and were only denied by a controversial decision. Heneghan again battled to win a header from a Thompson corner, but was deemed to have prevented the Wycombe defender from challenging him unfairly. Blackpool had not completed the turnaround, but Wycombe had been given fair warning.

Despite a lively start to the second half, the game petered out with both sides continuing to lack invention and creativity.

Blackpool may have only got a draw today and created very little, but they made a solid Wycombe side look average. Blackpool have still got a long way to come and the match was far from entertaining, but it is a good result against an excellent side.
